Getting started
Signing in
Passwords, sign-in links, passkeys and single sign-on, and what to do when none of them work.
2 minute read
There are four ways into an account, and any of them may be available to you depending on how your workspace is set up.
Password
The ordinary way. If you have forgotten it, use Forgot password on the sign-in page: you get a link that is good for one hour and works once. Setting a new password does not sign out your other devices; do that from Settings → Security if you think somebody else has been in.
Email me a sign-in link
A one-time link, good for a few minutes, that signs you in without a password. Useful when you are on a machine where your password manager is not available. The link works once and cannot be reused, so a forwarded email is not a way in.
Passkey
If you have added a passkey (Settings → Security), your device unlocks the account with a fingerprint, face or device PIN. Passkeys cannot be phished and cannot be reused elsewhere, so if your device supports them this is the safest option. You can register several: a laptop and a phone, for instance.
Single sign-on
If your organisation has set up SSO, type your work email on the sign-in page and you will be sent to your identity provider. Your administrator controls who has access, and removing you there removes your access here.
When you cannot get in
- "Two-factor authentication required" means your workspace requires a second factor and your account does not have one yet. See Two-factor authentication.
- "Not available from this network" means the workspace only allows certain network addresses. Connect through your organisation's network or VPN, or ask an administrator to add your address.
- "Sign in through single sign-on" means the workspace requires SSO. Sign out and use Continue with SSO.
- Your session ended unexpectedly. Some workspaces cap how long a session may last. Signing in again is all that is needed.
If you have lost both your password and your second factor, use one of the recovery codes you were given when you turned two-factor on. If those are gone too, a workspace owner cannot recover your account for you; contact support from the address on the account.
